Multi-family Housing Inspection
California Health & Safety Code Section 13146.2 mandates that the Fire Department inspect multi-family housing units for compliance with the California Fire Code.
Multi-Family residential inspections are requirements set forth by the State Fire Marshal to ensure compliance with general fire and life safety provisions. The routine annual inspections are conducted to preserve property and minimize fire life and safety hazards. Violations may include:
- Malfunctioning smoke or carbon monoxide alarms
- Clearance around heat producing appliances
- Expired or discharged fire extinguishers
- Egress
- Fire department access
- Water supply
The property owner is responsible in ensuring all violations have been cleared in a timely manner, including those violations within a tenant's unit.
