Applications Being Accepted for New Citizens Public Safety Committee
For immediate release: June 25, 2020
The City is now accepting applications for service on the new Citizens Public Safety Committee. The committee was created to engage community stakeholders, identify community quality-of-life concerns, gather information on police services and practices, and develop potential positions of advocacy for the City Council.
“The City Council and I see this as a way of working with community members to identify and respond to issues before they become problems, and improving everyone’s safety and quality of life,” explained Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley.
The 11-member committee, appointed by Mayor Gutierrez, will act in an advisory role to the City Council. It will include Mayor Pro Tem Victoria Baca as chair and Councilwoman Dr. Carla J. Thornton as vice chair; five community members; two non-profits that are faith-community representatives from places of worship in Moreno Valley; and two representatives of businesses located in Moreno Valley. The committee will also include three non-voting members representing the City Manager’s Office and the Police and Fire departments.

Comité de Seguridad Publica de Ciudadanos
La Ciudad está ahora aceptando solicitudes para participación en el nuevo Comité de Seguridad Pública de Ciudadanos. El comité se creó para obtener la participación de las partes interesadas de la comunidad, determinar los problemas de calidad de vida en la comunidad, reunir información sobre los servicios y prácticas policiales y desarrollar posibles posiciones de apoyo para el Concejo Municipal.
"El Concejo Municipal y yo vemos esto como una manera de trabajar con los residentes de la comunidad para identificar y responder a las dificultades antes de que se conviertan en problemas, y mejorar la seguridad y la calidad de vida de todos," explicó el Dr. Yxstian Gutiérrez, Alcalde de Moreno Valley.
El comité de 11 miembros, designado por el Alcalde Gutiérrez, actuará como asesor del Concejo Municipal. Incluirá a la Vice Alcaldesa Victoria Baca como presidenta y al concejal Dra. Carla J. Thornton como vicepresidenta; cinco miembros de la comunidad; dos organizaciones sin fines de lucro que son representantes de la comunidad religiosa en Moreno Valley; y dos representantes de empresas ubicadas en Moreno Valley. El comité también incluirá tres miembros sin derecho a voto que representan la Oficina del Administrador de la Ciudad y los departamentos de Policía y Bomberos.
