Reminder: Personal-use Fireworks are Illegal in Moreno Valley
Concern with Injuries, Fires and Effects on Pets and Those with PTSD

Personal-use fireworks remain illegal in Moreno Valley, and for some very good reasons, including the risk, especially to children, of burns and other injuries such as loss of fingers, hearing and eyesight. And the list goes on.
"Some of the dangerous fireworks we see each year are professional-grade in the hands of amateurs. But even fireworks marketed as 'safe and sane,' as if they're harmless toys, are really various degrees of explosives that can burn and cause permanent injury," said Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley. "We urge residents not to risk their own or others' safety and to respect the rights and property of their neighbors."
Fireworks are also illegal in Moreno Valley to prevent structure and wild fires and to protect others, as well, including pets. Each year, numerous dogs and cats are reported missing due to being frightened by fireworks.
And many of the military veterans in our community, who are especially sensitive to the sights and sounds of explosions and are dealing with the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), report dreading this time of year, knowing that fireworks may go off at any time with no warning.
