Moreno Valley Creates New Senior Meal Delivery Program

Qualifying Seniors to Receive Two MoVal Restaurant Meals Daily

For immediate release: May 11 2020

Modifying an initiative announced by Governor Newsom recently, the City of Moreno Valley has created a new meal delivery program to help protect senior residents, the population most at risk from coronavirus.

MoVal Senior Eats, which begins accepting applications today, May 11, will deliver two nutritious restaurant meals a day to 150 qualifying Moreno Valley seniors, five days a week for the next two months. This program has the added benefit of providing critically needed business for local MoVal restaurants struggling to stay afloat during the crisis. Deliveries are set to begin Monday, May 18.

The program, a modified version of California's first-in-the-nation Great Plates Delivered program, is funded through a federal/state/local partnership in which the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) pays 75% of the cost, the state pays 18.75% and the City is responsible for the remaining 6.25%.

"The more we can protect seniors from potential exposure to coronavirus right now, the better," explained Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley. "The Senior Eats program is good for seniors and good for the local economy."

Interested seniors and restaurant owners should visit MoVal Senior Eats online at moval.org/senioreats; seniors can also call the Senior Eats hotline at 951-413-3775 to learn more about eligibility
